Illegal Cyclists to Receive £30 Fixed Penalty Notices in Skegness

A new Skegness police initiative called Operation Riviera was launched October 2009. The aim is to reduce illegal cycling on pavements by giving cyclists a fixed penalty £30 fine!

PCSO Dave Bunker from Skegness' neighbourhood policing team said: "The local team has received a number of complaints about cyclists using pavements and pedestrianised areas to cycle around the town and there are genuine concerns someone is going to be seriously hurt if we can't put a stop to it."

In priniciple I understand these concerns, but and it's a big but, how are young cyclists in Skegness to enjoy cycling, where can they go?

Been a while since I cycled, but when I did I spent a fair amount of time on the pavements and getting a £30 fine is dumb IF you are riding carefully.

A bigger issue are the mobility scooters that go much faster than a push bike and are prevalent on Skegness paths.
